Are you currently serving or a service year alum? You’ve made an impact through your service year, and now you can encourage friends and people in your network to serve, as well. Word of mouth is one of the best ways to recruit new service year corps members, and you can share a referral link to encourage people to apply to the program where you served, or to find a best-fit service year opportunity on their own.

Once you are enrolled or registered as an alum on ServiceYear.org, you can create a unique referral link that you'll be able to share with your friends. If you’re currently serving but aren’t yet enrolled, share this article with your program staff with instructions on how they can help you create a free corps member account.

How it Works:

  1. Create your referral link: Once you are registered and signed in as a serving corps member or alum, you can head to the referrals section of your dashboard. From here, you can create a unique referral link for any of the following:

    • Listing: Share a specific service year opportunity - such as the program where you served - with your friends.

    • Network: Share opportunities from a community or network of programs for your friends to explore.

    • Join ServiceYear.org: Encourage your friends to join ServiceYear.org and explore opportunities on their own.

  2. Share your referral link with people in your networks: You can copy and share your referral link in numerous formats—via text message, on social media, via email, and more.

Tips for sharing your referral link with friends and network:

To help you get started, we’ve created this referral toolkit with templates and examples for sharing your link in different places and formats. Feel free to be creative with how you share your personalized link. Below are just a few of the places you can consider sharing your link:

  • Text Message

  • Social media platforms (Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Facebook, and more)—which can include sharing alongside the text, photos, story features, and/or videos.

  • Email

  • LinkedIn

  • Blog post

  • Newsletters

Tracking your successful referrals:

When someone registers, applies, or is enrolled in an opportunity based on your referral, you’ll receive a notification in your corps member/alum dashboard, as well as an update via a weekly digest email. On your referrals page, you’ll also be able to view stats based on when someone registers, applies, or is enrolled in an opportunity as a result of your referral link and outreach.

Best of all, organizations will also be able to see if someone applies and is eventually accepted based on a referral you sent!

If you have any questions or suggestions on sharing your referral link, just let our team know by using the chat feature on our platform.
