ServiceYear.org uses JavaScript in order to improve your experience. Some of our features don't work without it, and some of them don't work well without it.

Here are some things you cannot do on our platform without having JavaScript enabled:

  • Location search: you cannot enter a search location on the Search page because we use Google Maps to directly check that the location entered is a real location. We do this because it gives the user a more immediate response and allows us to auto-suggest possible matches as you type.

  • Corps Member profile forms: you cannot enter your current zip code or preferred service locations because these fields use Google Maps to directly check that the location entered is a real location. We do this because it gives the user a more immediate response and allows us to auto-suggest possible matches as you type.

  • Host Organization listing forms: you cannot enter service locations because these fields use Google Maps to directly check that the location entered is a real location. We do this because it gives the user a more immediate response and allows us to auto-suggest possible matches as you type.

  • Any forms requiring date entry: we use a date entry "widget" that requires JavaScript to allow for easier date selection as well as to prevent the entry of invalid dates.

  • Videos: JavaScript is required on our platform in order to play videos.

  • Messaging: messaging between host organizations and corps members currently requires JavaScript.

Here are some things that don't work smoothly without having JavaScript enabled:

  • Navigation: the primary navigation features on our website header bar do not function well on mobile without JavaScript and do not function at all on desktop computers without JavaScript.

We understand if you do not wish to turn on JavaScript but encourage you to do so. If you need help to turn it on, please check out these directions.
